Super Junior’s ‘Mr. Simple’ is surprisingly fantastic
HI! I thought I’d review Super Junior’s “Mr. Simple” because it’s worth talking about. Why else?
Who is that singing in the beginning? I have no idea why I can’t pinpoint it. Is it Yesung? Siwon? It sounds good. Don’t condemn me for being ignorant LOL. Super Junior has a special place in my heart for sure, but I am a bit behind.
It’s interesting to me that Super Junior seems to be developing a standard music video style. For a while I was frustrated by it because it seemed like a lack of creativity on the production team’s part, but now it’s almost expected.
My first impression of the song was that it was pretty repetitive. I mean, it kind of is. Halfway through the video I was planning my schedule. YEAH.
However, by the end of the video I realize it was just that I was in a hypnotic trance. Multiple listens have me sitting here with a huge, stupid grin because this song is K-Pop perfection. It’s in my system like a virus and the longer it’s there the more I love it. And WTF about how the pace changes at the end! I almost started laughing but I think it works because it breaks the “monotony” (AKA the gorgeous addiction) and makes you realize you’ve been listening for several minute already and you’re ready for more.
AND THE “BLOW YOUR MIND” LINE! LOL BUT LOVING IT. I also love the dance. It’s somehow subtle but it works. It’s so synchronized and I love the “X” part where they move their arms like scissors. IT’S SO ADDICTIVE. BLOW YOUR MIND.
The styling is passible. I like the suit/sports coat variations. The hair is hit or miss (SIWON D:) but it’s generally good stuff.
Anyway, I’m really liking “Mr. Simple.” It’s something good for ONCE! I don’t have a lot of favorites this year, but this is working for me so far. MMM YEAH!
Quick question for those who are paying attention: I’m thinking about incorporating non-Asian entertainment stuff on here. Nothing crazy, obviously. I’ve gotten into some American television in the past few months and I’ve been watching a lot of movies. Would you hate seeing reviews/recaps/thoughts on those incorporated with my normal fare? Let me know. ALSO, how great is “Mr. Simple”?!

To me, the first person who says “Hey! I’m Mr Simple!” sounds like Kyuhyun. The MV is just like Sorry, Sorry and Bonamana as is the song: Super Junior style and I like it.
And about non-Asian stuff? Well, that’s your choice. Personally it would be something different no?
The guy singing in the beginning is Yoo Yong Jin, he was also in Sorry sorry answer version.
Just thought you’d like to know… that “change of pace” towards the end is a trademark of SM’s song writer Yoo Young-Jin (same man behind sorry sorry and bonamana). Here’s the full interview in case you’re interested:

Pretty fascinating.
And yeah this song has been etched into my brain along with all the other catchy SuJu tunes. It’s like crack. And I love it!
I just went through the interview again and I can’t seem to find where he explains this is what he does to give each of his songs a unique feel and to appeal to the Korean audience. So my bad for not being able to find the source of my statements, but still enjoy the article and check out the links at the end. Very interesting man! I’ll have to do a more thorough search when I have time!
AAH YES! Someone who agrees with me about Siwon’s hair! xD
