THESE GIRLS BRING THE BOYS (AND FANGIRLS) OUT
Posted under: If you want to talk ultra-fierce domination of my HEART then we have to bring up “The Boys” by So Nyuh Shi Dae/Girls Generation. CAUSE, UH, YEAH.
Admittedly, my first reaction was befuddlement. This is almost an anti-song. I don’t even know what I mean by that, but do you get it? It has the weirdest non-K-pop chorus EVER and it has the same effect as Super Junior’s “Mr. Simple” on me. It’s just so darn addictive. There is something amazing in its out-of-the-box quality. I kind of love how everyone’s semi-rapping.
And let’s talk about the video. LOVE IT. The intro is ridiculous times three thousand but I love the choreography soooooooooooo much and I don’t care if people are complaining that the sets are cheap (wtf?) because it’s only a stage for the girls and UGH it’s fabulous. Seriously though, this choreography is mind-blowing and gorgeous. It’s all legs but that’s somehow okay because everyone looks so elegant and amazing and I can’t even be bothered to feel jealous because they just do it all so well. The styling is a little schizo (lol Taeyeon’s hair when it’s wavy), but it ends up working in the end and idk, I’m good with it when it comes down to it.
The lyrics are SOOOOOOO lol but it’s okay. If you watch the English version (not bad) it’s kind of what you’d imagine would go with a chorus that talks about the girls bringing the boys out, but the Korean version translated is hilaaarious. It’s all about like… encouraging menfolk or something. I DON’T EVEN KNOW. It’s like, “REACH FOR YOUR DREAMS BECAUSE YOU’RE STRONG ENOUGH!!!!! GIRLS BRING THE BOYS OUT!!!!” LOL FOREVER. Oh K-pop, never change.
Anyway, I just had to tell you all that I approve of this song. I like songs like this that are surprising and interesting. SNSD can really do little wrong. I used to get irritated with them for numerous reasons, but you have to admire them for being so good at their craft. If you’re going to be a girl group, you might as well not beat around the bush. REACH FOR THE STARS!!!!

ALSO, this video inspired me to wear Yuri-style hair for the first time in a year so I guess you could say I’m a little obsessed.
Liked it, but not perfect. Wished the chorus was more catchy, really don’t like the cheerleader shouting. Every time I heard that in kpop now, I just think of After School. With a catchier chorus… it’ll be 5 star.
P.S. Jessica and Taeyeon was sooo hot (as usual), which automatically bumped this song from a 3.5 star to a 4.5 star after watching the MV.
I get what you’re saying. I originally felt that the chorus was so weird, and I wanted it to be more standard. I think now I’ve gotten used to the rhythm of the song and I kind of like that it’s different than most songs. Still, I wouldn’t have complained if it was a regular style chorus! I actually thought of After School too! Especially with that part before they go low on one knee with the other leg extended (the minor Yuri part haha).
